ll archives: Fly in Style with Surf Air

Santa Monica is an incubator for tech startups that make our lives a lot more productive. It's also home to travel startup Surf Air, which is doing the same for frequent flyers living and doing business on the West Coast. Surf Air is a membership airline that, for a monthly fee of $1750, offers unlimited regional flights within California. The service touts a personalized concierge, intimate flight experience in an eight-person cabin designed by BMW, no security screening and you can book up to 15 minutes before takeoff without penalty. The folks over at Surf Air are on to something. Who doesn't want a first class flight experience without the airport hassle and traditional commercial pricing? If you’re a savvy networker, it’s also a chance to meet other entrepreneurs, business executives, or leisure travelers. For now, Surf Air only offers flights in 8 destinations for the California commuter with additional flights to Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas.

Here's to hoping this subscription-based model for private plane services catches on in other metropolitan areas across the country.
