ll archives: Adorn Media Group's Megan Elliott and Lauren Price
Megan Elliott and Lauren Price pack a powerful punch when it comes to the world of public relations and blogging. The two have put their heads together to form Adorn Media Group, a full-service beauty, fashion and lifestyle marketing firm for brands and tastemakers. We caught up with the pair to hear their thoughts on creative careers and on being women entrepreneurs. Good advice ahead!
Name:ME: Megan Elliott LP: Lauren Price
Current location:ME: Atlanta, GA LP: Atlanta, GA
Where are you from?ME: The south - I’ve moved around from Alabama (where I was born) to Texas to Florida. LP: I was born in Chicago but grew up in Georgia.
Education:ME: I went to Florida State University where I graduated with Bachelor’s Degrees in both English and International Affairs. LP: I graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor's in Public Relations.
Business & Formal Title:ME: Co-Founder, Head of Tastemaker Relations + Campaign Development LP: Co-Founder, Head of Brand Management + Public Relations
What is Adorn Media Group and how did it come to be?ME: It all happened very organically. Lauren and I met in March and our first experiences together consisted of planning a sponsored trip to LA. We worked so many deals and Lauren came up with these really strategic and specific plans for what we could do for our sponsors via our blogs. We made a good team and had lots of fun doing it. One day I was thinking about blogging & sponsorships and told Lauren she should start a business that offers both PR & blog campaigns. With Lauren's PR know how and my blogging expertise, it just made sense. One thing led to another and before we knew it, we were business owners!
What did you all do before?ME: I ran my blog full time with some design work on the side, which I still do!
LP: I was and still am working in PR at a non-profit youth organization in addition to managing my life & style blog full time - the day is basically never ending :)
What did you all think you’d be doing now whenever you were 10?ME: When I was 10, I probably thought I’d become either a princess or the president. I’m still aiming for a good mix of the two ;)
LP: I was sold on becoming a weather girl and a big sister. I still bug my mom about the big sister part :)
Would you all describe Adorn Media Group as your “dream job”? Why or why not?ME: This is a tough one because when I’m working for Adorn, I don’t really feel like it’s a job. In all honesty, what I’m doing now is so much better than I have ever dreamed.
LP: I kind of have to agree with Megan. It is definitely a dream come true to be a business owner. That feeling of empowerment and pride is unmatched. II do think my ‘dream job’ will always consist of several roles and be constantly evolving but I couldn’t be more excited to see how Adorn plays a part in that!
Are you all involved in any side hustles, ladypreneur collabs or baby projects? Tell us about them.ME: Always. I’m always doing something new & collaborating when I can. I have a really amazing collab coming up that I can’t announce yet, but I couldn’t be more excited about it!
LP: Yes, yes and yes. My dad was always Mr. New Project so I am happy to say I got that from him. From some pretty exciting blog collabs coming up to a few projects I have in my personal life, I am definitely looking forward to the months ahead. So what can you expect? Well, you'll just have to wait and see :)
What do your daily routines consist of?ME: First things first, I have a huge glass of iced coffee. Then I check my email and catch up on that as much as I can. Check my blog, make sure everything is running smoothly. Then I do Adorn stuff pretty much all day with some design work mixed in. Eat some lunch if I have time/remember to eat. More work and tons of emailing. After 5 I tend to do more design work and sometimes go take photos for the blog. Once it’s dark out, I grab some dinner with a glass of wine (and watch tv if one of my shows is on). Then I write blog posts before bed and check my email one last time. I pretty much don’t stop working from the moment I wake up until when I go to sleep. But honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love what I do!
LP: Coffee. Shower. Repeat. That is my morning, usually followed by checking emails, scrolling through Instagram (a girl’s gotta do her research), taking a peek at the day’s latest blog post and getting some Adorn work done. Then I head into the office for my corporate job and try to get to emails during lunch breaks. When I get home, it’s usually time for dinner and then a parade of emails and checking off Adorn and blog to-do lists. Oh, and I couldn’t get through the day without a mini Netflix binge - currently reliving Grey’s Anatomy! Like Megan, we are working all day everyday but I absolutely love it.
A day in the Adorn office is like?ME: Right now, the Adorn office is Gchat and Google Drive. Lauren and I are in constant communication all day about the various things we need to get done. Since we are still less than a month old, we don’t have a physical office yet, but that is at the top of our priority list!
LP: Ditto to Megan. But we are definitely excited for what the future holds - especially the decorating.
How do all you balance work and life and is that actually even possible?ME: Right now, I definitely don’t balance it at all. I’m always working. But I know that means that in a few years, once Adorn has taken off, I can take a step back.
LP: I feel pretty blessed that the majority of what I would consider ‘work’ coincides with my everyday life. Yes, it is a hectic, crazy life that is non stop but I think the balance comes at the end of the day, in that moment where you couldn’t imagine any other combination of projects, to-do lists and RSVPs.
You have to do it and you hate it – what is your least favorite task to do at Adorn? ME: Conference calls. I hate talking on the phone. I’d so much rather do things via email or in person!
LP: Anything administrative. I went to school for PR so thinking about money and math and legal jumbo all make my head hurt. Luckily, Megan and I are able to balance everything out pretty well :)
Top 5 favorite cities?ME: New York, Santa Monica, Miami, New Orleans, Atlanta. I’ve never been out of the US, so I’m sure all 5 of these will change as soon as I travel abroad.
LP: This is a tough one. I love Chicago, Austin and Malibu. I’m still searching for those other two - I’m thinking somewhere in Italy and France will make the list!
Red, White or Sparkling?ME: Red, always. LP: Champagne. Any day or night.
Words to live by:ME: Have more than you show; speak less than you know. LP: The most alluring thing a woman can have in confidence. And yes, that is Beyonce.
In 5 years you’ll be:ME: Running our newest fully staffed office. LP: Managing an amazing Adorn team. Married with the sweetest bun in the oven. My first pair of Manolos. I’ll take one of each please.
On being women entrepreneurs:ME: Being a woman entrepreneur is amazing. I have already personally connected with so many women who tell me I am living their dream. If I can inspire just one person to pursue what she feels she is meant to do, then I have achieved the best goal of all.
LP: It’s awesome and quite frankly. kind of horrifying all in one swift breath. On one hand, I feel so inspired and excited to tackle the crazy life that goes with being your own boss and business owner. On the other, it can be intimidating knowing that we have those big, proverbial shoes to fill. The added pressure is definitely a great thing and I couldn’t be more excited to see how the journey unfolds.
